Pickaxe is a weapon in Dark Souls 2.
A Pickaxe used for mining. Not intended as a weapon, but packs a powerful punch.
This tool, designed to crush hard rock, can easily puncture weaker forms of armor.
Acquired From:
- Brightstone Cove Tseldora, mini-quest: You must guide one of the boars from the Royal Army Campsite bonfire all the way down towards the end of the level, past the boss Magus & Congregation and across the spikes. On the room where you are ambushed by ceiling-spiders, right before the dark room with many spiderwebs, there are mushrooms in the middle that will be eaten by the pig, revealing the pickaxe.
- Tips: Don't lose it's aggro. The best strategy is to stand near your boar, close enough for him to follow you but doesn't attack, because when he attacks he eventually loses aggro.
- Killing everything which is on the way to the mushrooms is a good idea, maybe even the spiders in the room because he takes a bit time to eat the mushrooms. This will mean killing some enemies at the bottom of the cove enough times to de-spawn them as there is no easy way back up after clearing the level.
- If the piglet dies you don't need to burn an ascetic to have him spawning again, the mushrooms don't respawn though, even after burning a bonfire ascetic. They are available in regular NG+
- The Redeye Ring is invaluable here as the pig will only lose you if you wander ridiculously far away. Once he sees you, he will follow you. Recommended: Clear the path all the way to the bonfire after Magnus and then put on the ring and draw him in. Instead of going down the stairs near the fire, take the cliff area and jump across to where Pate and Creighton fight. The pig will make many unexpected jumps and follow you anyway. After going through the building recommended above you may recall you will end up in the area with the humanoid spider enemies and two basilisks.
- If the pickaxe drops and you die before you collect it, you can still find it on the ground after respawn.
Hints and Tips:
- Upgraded with regular Titanite. Cannot be infused with Bleed.
- Note that it deals thrusting damage and it does benefit from the Old Leo Ring.
- Has a small range, attacks mostly only the front by smashing it into the ground, roll attack and second 2H R2 are the only wide swings
- After Calibration 1.08, the Pickaxe no longer does two instance. Highly recommended to go for two handed R1 attack combo instead,
Trivia:
- Note that pigs also dig things up in real life, people use them to hunt truffles, and this is exactly what the boar is doing upon seeing the mushrooms.
- The way of acquiring the pickaxe may also loosely related to Fairy Fossil from King's Field 2.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.

Fun fact: if you kill the pigs in Majula 12 times, only two larger pigs spawn. If you kill them 12 times, one super large pig will spawn.
You can lure any of these pigs to the mushrooms mentioned to obtain the pickaxe.

This was easier than I thought it would be. Just clear the path best you can up until the zipline (use bow/crossbow for the warlocks too). Then back track and follow the instructions. The pig will miraculously make the jumps. Carry a torch if you have trouble with the spiders.

Who in the sweet and sour **** thought this was a good idea?

I wonder if we can do the same thing with the pigs in majula...

This is so oddly specific that it feels like an Easter egg/reference along the lines of the Notched Pickaxe in Skyrim.

I killed the piggy with a fire longsword. Mmmm crispy bacon.

I came here expecting something like ''Yeah it drops from that invader using it'' and when I saw the little quest my jaw dropped to hard

Fun Fact! If you lure a baby piggy to that area, it will also dig up the pickaxe! (Source: Vaati)

Whats wrong with the upgrade chart? There is no dext scaling stat even though there is one on the chart at the top.

Imagine being the first guy or girl to find this; you’re just wanting to have a little piggy friend follow you for the whole level cuz it’s super cute, and having animal followers makes games 100x better. You manage to kite the little bugger all the way down to the (almost) final room of the area, and suddenly you turn around to make sure it’s still following you and you see it eating something, you think; “Awwww! The piggy actually eats if you bring it down here cuz it’s tired from so much walking!” Then a little glowing blue orb appears, you get confused but assume it was just a graphical glitch on an item drop. You go to pick it up and see “Pickaxe”, a weapon you hadn’t seen or heard of being in the game. You test it out and then go online to tell others about it, everyone else says that they hadn’t heard of or gotten it, you realize you made history just by thinking a pig was cute. End of story.

if you killed your little piggy after he dug it up for you you’re a monster

did it on my first try without clearing the enemys before. only thing you gotta be careful is when you wanna make it fall of a ledge. make sure youre as close to the ledge as possible and wait for the pig to attack then jump off yourself. its attack makes it charge forward a bit, enough to clear any small gaps. (from the church go down left to the house where the 2 npcs are fighting, the gap is the smallest after that youre pretty much in the clear) only thing i wonder is why this thing exists in the first place. weapon is total*****, swings like a hammer but with no range no damage cant put any magic on it. you might say the weapon is to show off but show off what? that youre a nerd like me? lol

There's got to be another way to get a pick axe. This stuff is impossible
I could swear I have gotten it off of the invader in the area. I know I had it once because I tried it out but I have never done any of that.
- Anonymous
Dude, who the FUCK was the first one to figure this out? This is like some real boredomx100 discovery kind of stuff.
- Anonymous
I think this is wrong info that it doesn't benefit from the Old Leo Ring. Other wikies say it DOES and I did a little test by myself.
I can confirm the last post made, I got the pickaxe and didn't followed any of this. Maybe its a drop from an enemy..
- Anonymous
I may be wrong but i trink the Pickaxe is also a Drop from an enemy. I have one with my First charakter and I surely did NOT Do an of this. Maybe it is a Different one though. Just though i should Inform You. Feel free to Delete this Comment if i am wrong.

As I am a guest I can not edit the page though I can post this in the hopes someone does as I would rather not create an account just for this. Anyways, at a certain point, pretty much the very beginning, the wiki says that the guide is wrong about something it doesn't actually say, and yes I am being a whiny little idiot but I can't stop this from bugging me just a bit too much, because the guide mentions the little piglet that has a 1/1000 chance of spawning in reference to getting the pickaxe. Now the problem with this is that the guide never says that ONLY the piglet will do to get the pickaxe so, and this is what I believe, I can only assume that the guide was written in such a way that people would ASSUME that the piglet was needed and suffer since it never says that the piglet is the only way and it would seem to fit From's 'personality'. Sorry about this, essentially, useless post.
Great damage but good luck hitting someone with this moveset.
