Resonant Weapon is a Hex in Dark Souls 2. To cast a Hex, you must use a staff/chime or Special Weapons that can cast Hex.

"A hex developed independently by Outcast Felkin. Transforms a certain amount of souls into attack power over a period of time.

Something gained, something lost.

Catalyst: sacred chime"

Notes

  • The strongest Weapon Buff in the game, but only slightly more so than Dark Weapon and its equivalents.
  • Buffs weapon with dark damage. Superior to Dark Weapon. Costs 2000 souls to cast, losing effectiveness if the price isn't met. Duration scales with Faith (as it is cast from a Chime): 45 sec. at 24 faith, and up to 72 sec. at 36 faith.
  • DS2's buff formula differs from other Souls games, instead relying primarily on the targeted weapon's base damage to determine how much AR the spell buff will add. Matching the spell buff with a damage type present on a weapon will add a flat bonus to the total AR, depending on whatever the weapon is infused with and/or naturally inflicts said damage type. A small scaling bonus is also added unless the targeted weapon doesn't scale at all with any stats.

So I saw someone else's research into buffs, and then saw that this is the strongest buff on weapons with pure physical damage, but worse than others on elemental weapons, especially when matched with the same elemental buff. It might also give 0 flat damage, as a broken fullmoon greatsword gives 0 damage when buffed with this. A strange buff, but maybe worthwhile for pure physical weapons?

Is there any point to this? From my brief testing, its like 1-2% more powerful than dark weapon, but uses 2 slots instead of 1, costs 2k per use, and wears off sooner than dark weapon.

Now, if it lasted LONGER than dark weapon, like 2x as long, then I could see using it even if it cost more souls just so I didn't have to reapply it during bosses fights, ect. As it is, the shorter duration alone makes it worse than dark weapon.

for plebs who don't realise this (and the wiki) this buff will also buff your weapon's phys AR as my Lost Sinners Sword (0 sin, uninfused) does around 700 damage with 50/50 str dex and when reso buff, suddenly hits for 900+ damage, ez buff ez win.

Dark weapon is better is literally every way... 1 ATN slot, longer duration, same damage, no soul cost etc.

Can be used to buff some weapons that can't be buffed naturally. Sotfs, I dark infused the Smelter Hammer, could not buff with dark weapon, but resonant weapon worked. Probably needs more testing, I'm sure this wasn't just a one off.
