Dark Weapon is a Hex in Dark Souls 2. To cast a Hex, you must use a staff/chime or Special Weapons that can cast Hex.

Notes

  • Buffs weapon with dark damage. Duration scales with Intelligence (As it is cast with a staff): 57 sec. at 16 Int, and up to 99 sec. at 24 Int. Inferior to Resonant Weapon. Equivalent to Crystal Magic Weapon and Sunlight Blade in effectiveness.
  • DS2's buff formula differs from other Souls games, instead relying primarily on the targeted weapon's base damage to determine how much AR the spell buff will add. Matching the spell buff with a damage type present on a weapon will add a flat bonus to the total AR, depending on whatever the weapon is infused with and/or naturally inflicts said damage type. A small scaling bonus is also added unless the targeted weapon doesn't scale at all with any stats.
  • While this is arguably the best weapon buff for dark-infused weapons, it should be noted that a resonant weapon does slightly more damage (.05, a negligible amount but more nonetheless) and should not be overlooked for a hexer that focuses on chime-based spells.

      How much is the base damage? And how much is lvling faith and int on a non dark infused weapon increase it?

        The best spell in the game. Just put this on anything and watch those numbers go up! It is so cheap too, 16 Int/14 Faith? Oh my goodness, it even gives you 4 (four) casts by default. Seriously I can't NOT get it every playthrough, it's a little too good lol

          The claim that resonant weapon is superior to dark weapon is NOT TRUE! With a weapon having no dark damage, dark weapon adds more dark damage than RW, RW lasts for only ~75 seconds at 99 in while DW lasts for 99 seconds at 24 in, RW takes 2 slots while DW requires only 1. RW is INFERIOR to DW!

            I’m playing SotFS on Xbox, and neither this nor resonant weapon add any damage whatsoever, it’s entirely visual. Is this a bug? It doesn’t change any values on the status or weapon pages, nor after hitting various things does it appear to add any damage. I’ve cast them both on uninfused dark innate weapons, infused dark with dark Innate, and every weapon type.

              The best weapon buff among them all. If you have decent int - use this, no matter what element your weapon has.

                I'm starting to lose my mind..
                My dark infused Sacred Chime does 906 damage with Dark Weapon to the Firekeeper, but when I use Resonant Weapon, which supposed to be a little bit stronger, only 901? Both my Int and Faith is on 40, tried using the Sanctum Shield to cast both, and staff/chime for each, same result.

                  Can this be used to buff a staff or chime? It doesn’t seem to let me buff mine but I have seen people on YouTube do this
