Lifedrain Patch is a Hex in Dark Souls 2. To cast a Hex, you must use a staff/chime or Special Weapons that can cast Hex.

"Consume a number of souls and affix dark to a certain spot.
Inflicts damage upon those who touch it.

This distorted dark, brewed by hexers, drains the life-force of those who touch it.

Catalyst: sacred chime"

Notes

  • This hex can harm the caster and their allies if they step into or very close to the sphere. The sphere does not last very long but does a considerable amount of damage and consumes 3000 souls per use. Taking damage from this hex also deals stamina damage that increases with the amount of souls that were used to cast it.
  • Can be useful if enemies are lured into a narrow space (such as a doorway), as it will force the enemies to pass through the Lifedrain Patch in order to get to the player.
  • A variant of this spell which inflicts curse is used by Nashandra.

Has additional utility if you are on lower ground by using it as cover to cast another spell behind it as players can't see through it.

Newish to the game, been using this on a hex build. It requires a bit of setup, but if you can get an enemy to stay in the radius for the full duration, the total damage is only slightly lower than climax. Really surprised me.

is there a difference between max souls sacrificed and none sacrificed? maybe strength of lifedrain, or maybe duration?
