Curved Greatswords in Dark Souls II are a Weapon type that's larger and more powerful that their counter part which are the Curved Swords. Curved Greatswords are typically used as a two-handed weapon, they're slower than Greatswords in general but they are faster than Ultra Greatswords. Curved Greatswords excel at damage output with speeds comparable to smaller weapons, these weapons mostly use slash attacks but each striker carries more weight behind it as to why it has a higher damage output. The angles of which the Curved Greatswords swings make their range less effective than the traditional Greatswords, but they are still faster which makes them effective when facing multiple opponents. This page covers a list of all Curved Greatswords in Dark Souls 2.

I've never really understood the requirements for Curved greatswords, they're supposed to be dex weapons and scale off of dex of course, then why do they always need such high strength to wield? Wouldn't that just be wasted points since you won't be putting more into strength past the base minimum?

Four of these but like three thousand different straight swords, I know they'd be more common but at least give these beauties some love

All curved greatswords have a hidden -10% damage multiplier on their R1 attacks, so you can safely retract 10% from their attack rating to determine their "true" power. Dont be fooled by their seemingly high attack rating.
