Bluemoon Greatsword is a weapon in Dark Souls 2.
The Blade of this greatsword shines like the brilliant rays of the moon. In the oldest legends, rarely spoken of today, it is said that the sword was born of a great white being.
Then, what explains this lifeless weapon? Perhaps there has been some mistake...
Acquired From:
- Inherited from Benhart of Jugo. Player must summon him three times and defeat the boss with him surviving the fight, then speak to him in Drangleic Castle or the Memory of Orro to receive his equipment.
- The player may instead kill him for the blade, but will gain sin when doing so.
Hints and Tips:
- Upgraded with regular Titanite to +10.
- If you inherit his equipment instead of killing him for it, you gain an achievement/trophy.
- Uses Mastodon Greatsword moveset.
- Gains a D (C on +10) bonus in int for the enchanted upgrade path, but not for any other path.
- Despite this, going with the Raw upgrade path will yield more damage as buffs mostly consider AR before scaling for the buff formula.
- Benhart believes the sword contains power that only a true swordsman can unlock. Unfortunately, the blade is a fake. Maughlin the Armourer will confirm this if you take the blade to him. (If Maughlin is in his final stage, where he yells "I'm rich, I'm rich!", he will not say anything about the sword).
- Quite useful when infused with Raw or Enchanted.
- Despite it being a "fake", the thick blade bears a closer resemblance to the Moonlight Greatsword from both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.

I hate this garbage. Doesn’t even shoot blue beams like in Elden ring and other dark soul games
- Anonymous
Sorcerer builds be like: ewww 28 STR!!! *Proceeds to put 14pts into STR*

I appreciate the existence of this because it doesn't require you to go a pure mage build for it to be optimal unlike the "true" one
I've always loved the look of the moonlight greatsword
But could never use it since it's a mostly pure intelligence weapon and I never liked doing mage builds in these games,
This sorta lets non-mage builds have their own answer to the Moonlight Greatsword
Also, I cant be the only one who likes the look of this "fake" more than the "true" moonlight greatsword, it's much more ornate looking and vibrant, and the blade has a much more beautiful bright shade of blue to it than the Moonlight Greatsword, which is honestly kinda muted, greenish and dull by comparison, I'd argue this looks more akin to the original moonlight greatsword than the "true" one does

Mom, can we have Moonlight Greatsword?
No, we already have Moonlight Greatsword at home.

See this faint glow? It's not magic power. It's the glow of insanity, for it reflects it's creator's mad quest to become truly eternal.
- Anonymous
Something to keep in mind is that enemies in the DLC resist ranged attacks (flat 50%) not magic damage per se. So if you are thinking about enchanting this for the DLC, you might still get more damage out of magic +5.
- Anonymous
Spectacular SL1 weapon with DLC shield and strength ring. More AR than the zweihander when infused raw.
- Anonymous
My favorite thing to do is to get 14str,10 dex, spend everything else in 32 adp(for the optimum rolls) and vig/end split. The only downside is the durability, which I get the ring for asap
- Anonymous
If you kill Benhart right after you inherit his Greatsword, you get a dupe. Pretty cool for powerstances.
- Anonymous
Full upgrade + magic infusion + magic weapon sorcery = a "fake" being far better than the real thing

It should also be noted that Magerold will also talk about this sword if you talk to him. Saying that he danced around the topic of the sword with Benhart as to not make him feel bad.

Now, as a meelee mage i love this thing, and i was wondering, magic or enchanted if i'm going 50 int + any magic buff worth using (most likely crystal magic sword obv)?
- Anonymous
This is like one of those adidas and nike copies, but the shoe is actually made of good material
- Anonymous
With Vessel Shield and STR Ring, you can swing this Lore Flavorful Great Sword on a SL1 Character!
(If you're like me who do not want to kill our homie Bernhart while keeping your SL1 run fair against the bosses, I would suggest dropping fire aesthetic twice to the Prowling Magnus bonefire, in order to complete his quest.)

Ironically better for caster builds than the MLGS. Fully upgraded MLGS only beats out base Magic BMGS AR once you hit about 50 INT, and then BMGS shatters it with literally any buff. BMGS has the better moveset as well, although it's Achilles heel is it's durability which can be mitigated with rings.
Also, I think someone at Fromsoft screwed up the model. It's very clear that the original model of what was intended to be the moonlight greatsword ends up being the BMGS.
Look at it, it's bright as if shining with moonlight. Meanwhile, the MLGS is stretched, you can actually see the texture warping on the hilt and certain parts of the blade. Furthermore, it's dull as hell, as if it's a mere imitation. Just my 2 cents

This weapon is underrated as hell. Even if you are a mage and intend to buff it, 262 of elemental damage is not bad at all. Elemental scaling is usually **** anyway, you won't get much more than around 50 except for very specialized builds. This would put this weapon more or less at the same level as a Magic Mastodon GS with scaling. If you only invest 14 points of STR in order to two-hand it, this is definitely one of the best Greatswords in the game even for mages.
- Anonymous
It's actually the Bastard Sword moveset, not Mastodon. The 1HR2 is a strike, not a thrust.
- Anonymous
I think this one is the actual sword made from Seath's soul, but with its magical power already faded, as it was probably made many ages ago.
I think Maughlin says its a fake because he probably heard about the legendary sword, but when he saw this one, he didn't see its former power in it.

Cons:
End game acquirement
Heavy (may as well use ultra greatsword)
Low durability
Pros: I have 60 on all stats find it to work better with infusion no idea what this wiki states. With magic infusion and crystal weapon it would outdps moonlight greatsword which cannot be buffed post nerfs
Good horizontal animation swing

Low durability, tons of raw damage. The perfect definition of glass cannon. This fake gets sht done like a real deal.

mom can we get moonlight greatsword
no we already have moonlight greatsword at home

Damage wise it's one of the best greatsword in the game. With just Ring of Blades +2 and raw infusion this is doing 481 damage
- Anonymous
Benhart was right. Only a true swordsman can unlock the true power of this sword. Not a wizard
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
despite the fake-ness the sword is very very fatal for Vig/End/Vit builds, get a Bracing ring for it and you get big AR despite no scaling
- Anonymous
Unironically superior to the real thing. Just make that ***** Raw.

What if every anonymous post was the same person... Hehehehe think bout that, all the arguments, conversations, and comments all just one singular being talking to them self. Or my self?

"You know your pro-wrestling greatsword is fake, right Benhart?" "IT'S REAL TO ME, DAMN IT."

This badboy carried me from Last Giant to Aldia. This sword may be a fake, but it's one hell of a fake. Shout out to the smith who managed to craft a sword even better than the legendary blade he was attempting to replicate.

431 damage with a raw infusion will stand toe to toe damage wise with pretty much any other great sword even with a 50/50 Strength/Dexterity build behind it. If you start as the knight, that requires only 17 strength and one point in dexterity, as opposed to over 40 levels in each to get the hard caps for a claymore. Definitely worth picking up, even worth killing Benhart as soon as possible, as this weapon will make you a monster at low-mid levels. Just keep your eye on the durability, as this thing breaks quickly.
- Anonymous
You know, it's long been my headcanon that Benhart knows exactly what his sword is: He treasures it because it's an old family heirloom, and he never actually claims it's some kind of magical blade. He just says that "only a true man can wield it right." I figure what he means by that is that it's the skill of the swordsman that matters, not any inherent quality of the weapon. He probably wouldn't even be interested in the real Moonlight Greatsword considering it's a pure Intelligence weapon, and Benhart kinda doesn't strike me as the type who'd consider intelligence and magic talent to be the best quality of a manly warrior.
- Anonymous
"If Maughlin is in his final stage, where he yells "I'm rich, I'm rich!", he will not say anything about the sword" He does, actually.

An enchanted bluemoon greatsword +10 at 99 INT will only do 415 AR whereas a raw bluemoon greatsword +10 will do 431 AR, if you want to be using this sword for physical damage the raw infusion is the way to go as it completely outclasses the enchanted infusion.

Despite being a "fake," I would actually highly recommend this weapon. Yes, it has low durability, but if used sparingly in PVE, or used in PVP area matches, this sword can shine as brightly as a full moon in September.
- Anonymous
yeah we all know it's fake and thatit has no scalling, but i actually like it because of it's bulkier shape compared to the original moonlight, and it's decent ar when raw and +10 don't even make it a half-bad weapon
