Standard Shields | Strike / Parry | ||
Enchantable: Yes/No |
No Special |
The Hollow Soldier Shield is a Standard Shield in Dark Souls 2. Standard Shields can be used not only to block an enemy but to parry their attack as well. This allows a riposte, a free attack by the player for a high amount of damage. Enemy attacks can be interrupted with a parry (pressing the Strong Attack button for the shield) and requires practice to learn the timing.
Shield of hollowed royal soldiers.
The thing is in tatters, and only serves
as a shield in a most minimal respect.
The accoutrements of royal soldiers feature
a depiction of a brave knight from an old parable.
Acquired From
- Dropped by Hollow Soldiers in the Forest of Fallen Giants.
Hints and Tips:
- Despite the description, the shield possesses a fairly high physical damage reduction and stability for the early game.
- While still beaten out by most other shields in terms of elemental damage reduction, this is a respectable choice.
- Yellow Quartz Shield is the stronger variant of this shield.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.

I need an undestroyed version of this shield for the Royal Drangleic Soldier in-game cosplay(one of my favourite things to do in DS2)
- Anonymous
I think the description for this shield is saying their equipment is reminiscent of another “brave knight of old parable” which I think is referring to Raime who used to be a soldier of Vendrick and probably was a major leader or general. You can see a lot of similarities in the armor especially in the helmet and mid piece.

In my personal headcanon, every old item has a new counterpart. In the case of this shield, the counterpart I imagine is the Royal Kite Shield, since it too seems to be designed for use by royal soldiers.
