Standard Shields Strike / Parry
Enchantable:
Yes/No
No Special

Slumbering Dragon Shield is a Standard Shield in Dark Souls 2

"Shield of the Archdrake sect of Lindelt.
Represents a slumbering dragon,
and is intended for use in covert rituals.

The fools who woke the slumbering dragon
earned not only its ire, but also the
destruction of an entire country.

The survivors buried their wrongdoings in
the past, and in a show of terrible conceit,
attempted to make amends by carrying on
the knowledge of the wasted land."

Standard Shields can be used not only to block an enemy but to parry their attack as well. This allows a riposte, a free attack by the player for a high amount of damage. Enemy attacks can be interrupted with a parry (pressing the Strong Attack button for the shield) and requires practice to learn the timing.

Hints and Tips:

  • When farming for shield, best to travel to Shrine of Amana: Rhoy's Resting Place. Kill off the bug in front of you, and to the right. Use a great bow (or any type of range), with Covetous Gold Serpent Ring, and snipe out the 3 Archdrake (Knight or Caster) enemies standing by the cave entrance. Repeat and rest to continue farming.
  • Shield gives Stamina Regen.
  • Stamina Regen is equal to roughly 5%
  • Stamina Regen stacks with both Green Blossom and Chloranthy Ring variants.
  • Infusing with Bleed and Poison seemed to raise the Lightning Scaling to S without decreasing base damage, decent for bashing if you have stamina boosting rings, items and equipments.
  • While infusing with Lightning raises the scaling to A, while decreasing the base damage.
  • Upgrades with: Regular Titanite

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".

Since the table has some mistakes (or else vanilla vs scholar differences, I don't know), here are the stats for the +10 shield in Scholar

      73.7 petrify resist
      88.7 curse resist
      73.7 physical
      70.0 magic
      70.0 fire
      92.5 lightning
      70.0 dark
      73.7 poison
      73.7 bleed

So just a worse variant of the blossom kite shield with only for itself to block 10% more of lightning than the other while blocking less of EVERYTHING else, being less stable and weighting more.

        • At least this shield has very high lightning block, which the blossom shield doesn't. It's great for dealing with the clerics and fume sorcerers in the Old Iron King DLC (aka Brume Tower DLC), even though they aren't a super common enemy.

          • Anonymous

why does it show that it REDUCES lightning block when you upgrade it to +10? is this an error on the wiki's part or is the game really just this dumb
