Standard Shields Strike / Parry
Enchantable:
Yes/No
No Special

Old Knight's Shield is a Standard Shield in Dark Souls 2. Standard Shields can be used not only to block an enemy but to parry their attack as well. This allows a riposte, a free attack by the player for a high amount of damage. Enemy attacks can be interrupted with a parry (pressing the Strong Attack button for the shield) and requires practice to learn the timing.

Hints and Tips:

*Has the highest stability rating of all the medium shields and excellent all round defense stats. Well worth using if the strength requirements are met. Be wary of the low durability. (Durability is OK for NG.)

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.
Regular(R), Thrust(T), Slash(Sl), Strike(St)

      A dark +10 is 98.2 (phys)/ 75.7 (magic/fire/light)/ 68.7 (dark)/ 68.2 (all statuses) & 68 stability.

Still a very good shield and is available almost right away with some luck! If the requirements/weight/durability are a problem check out a dark drakekeeper shield late into the game.

      • according to the darksouls fandom wiki: "The Old Knight Shield, like all other Old Knight items, possesses extremely low durability and has a 5% chance of performing an explosion similar to the Wrath of the Gods miracle upon breaking."

        • Anonymous

This information is incorrect. Dark +10 on a Old Knight Shield doesn't give you 91. If it did, this shield would be the best shield in the game.

By far, the best shield in the game and mostly overlooked. It took me 5 characters and more 600h in the game to finally try it and appreciate it. It does not explode and as a matter of fact, it never broke, at least until now NG++. I used to hold Drangleic shield but this is far better. I'm not the tanker / greatshield style so it suits well my Hex-Dex build.

Does it actually explodes when durability goes very low? like the ring that blows when you receive attacks??? Im curious if anyone has ever seen it do something like that, I've tried but it seems to be a normal shield
