Royal Sorcerer Navlaan is an NPC in Dark Souls 2
Royal Sorcerer Navlaan Information
- DO NOT PULL THE LEVER IN THE ROOM IF YOU ARE PLANING ON DOING HIS QUESTLINE.
- Navlaan has a split personality depending on if you are hollow when you visit him.
- Talking to him while Human reveals different dialogue, and the potential to buy items from him. It's only possible to buy items from him after releasing him from the fog gate or after completing his quest chain. (see below)
- If you visit while hollow you talk to an assassin that requests your help to kill others(NPCs) while he is trapped. He will require an item from each npc to complete the "assassination", but will not remove the item from your inventory. (must be imprisoned behind the fog gate in order to activate this dialogue)
- You do not have to kill the NPC to receive the item, all can either be bought or attained by other means
- Royal Sorcerer Navlaan can be released by going to other side of the Keep and pulling the lever. This will cause Royal Sorcerer Navlaan to invade multiple times.)
- Using a Bonfire Ascetic will not reverse the fog or his freed state, nor will it revive him (he can easily be killed by enemies following you.
- Releasing him will cause you to lose the chance of getting one sorcery and one pyromancy that are only obtainable by completing his assassination quest line, which is only available if you talk to him while hollow and he is imprisoned.
- Be wary of Navlaan once he is released. He tends to spawn in a most annoying fashion, often spawning near powerful enemies. His attacks can also do decent damage to one caught off guard.
- Once you have completed his quest line, he will sell you items only when you're hollowed, and if you talk to him he will give you the Chaos Set.
- You can choose to complete his quest line for the rewards, then release him to enjoy him as a vendor while in human form. But he will still invade you.
- Releasing him will cause him to invade the player at various areas.
- Killing Navlaan just after you have released him will not add to your level of sin.
- Killing Navlaan after releasing him prevents him from invading**
Quests and Rewards
Note: All requested items can be either aquired by killing the target; they can all be aquired in other ways as well.

Dialogue
- First Encounter (while human)
1. P-please, just stay away.
No, please, don't come near me. Nothing good will come of it.
2. Just leave me alone, please.
Leave this place, and leave me be, as I'd not see any harm befall you.
3. Please, just leave me alone.
- Re-encounter (while human)
I haven't said anything strange, have I?
I have absolutely no intention of leaving here.
Do not attempt to help me. Just let me sit here, and wither quietly away…
- First Encounter (while hollow)
1. Well, you're nicely hollowed, aren't you…
Are you tormented by memories? Burdened by guilt?
Now the question. Are you ready for more? If you are, then we ought to talk…
2. This? This contains my power.
Long ago…This…naive vessel of mine set about devising new spells.
The fool dreamt of bringing new forms of magic into the world.
But instead, he created me. Mostly by chance, but he did a fine job, I must say.
What he sought was strength. And so, I decided to demonstrate.
While my vessel slept, I'd find my mark, and hunt him down.
But my vessel did not approve. And so while I slept, he sealed the both of us away.
3. Now, I don't have anything against humans, but how is it that you go about defining good and evil?
I'm only using what the Gods gave me. How can that be so wrong?
So, what say you to a spot of murder on my behalf?
If you don't, I'll leave this place, and take more lives. Many more.
I couldn't give a fig either way. So, what's your choice?
- Answering YES to a quest
see quest dialog below
- Answering NO to a quest
Yes, yes, of course. Forget that I asked.
That's what "good people" do, am I right?
Your feeble mind can't begin to comprehend me. Not that you've ever tried! Heh heh…
- Answering NO to fourth quest
Having second thoughts?
It's your choice.
Ah hah hah, now you're getting nervous, hmm?
- First Quest
1. Yes, I see, how very kind of you.
I want you to kill a merchant named Gilligan. A greedy, foul man. He won't be missed, I assure you.
Hmm…Yes… Bring me a Ladder Miniature as proof.
He's the only person who'd have such an odd knick-knack…Heh heh…
2. I want you to kill a merchant named Gilligan.
And don't forget that Ladder Miniature. Heh heh…
3. Heh heh heh…Fine work.
This is my thanks. Take it.
Now, let's discuss our next mark.
- Second Quest
1. I want you to kill one more.
Your target will be Cale, the man who's drafting that map.
While I was trapped in here, he touched me, that maniac, like I was some rare specimen.
He wore a strange helm. Bring it back as proof.
2. Yes, I knew I could count on you.
Perhaps this will slake my thirst.
3. I want you to kill Cale, the cartographer.
Bring his helm as proof.
4. Heh heh heh…Fine work.
This is my thanks. Take it.
Now, let's discuss our next mark.
- Third Quest
1. I want you to kill one more.
You target is Felkin, the hexer.
As proof, bring me that peculiar sceptre of his.
What do you say?
2. Yes, very good.
But he will be formidable. Be cautious.
3. I want you to kill Felkin. That's Felkin, the hexer.
He has that sceptre. Bring it to me as proof.
4. Heh heh heh…Fine work.
This is my thanks. Take it.
Now, let's discuss something of importance.
- Fourth Quest
1. You could kill a dozen like that, and it wouldn't matter. I want you to kill someone of import.
I want you to kill the girl in Majula known as the Muse.
They say that she is the last Fire Keeper. But they say a lot of things…
That she's a gentle shepherd, lighting the way for you cursed fools. Nonsense.
Once she is dead, I will have no regrets, and I will be content to remain here.
The girl will have a peculiar feather. Bring it to me.
Now, go along. Heh heh…
2. Your mark is the girl in Majula known as the muse.
And don't forget that feather. Heh heh heh…
3. Yes, that's the feather.
Good, oh that is very good!
Your reward, take it. Heh heh heh…
- After quests have been completed
What do you require?
You've been good to me. Go on, tell me what you need.
- When gifting the Chaos Set
These are for you.
Don't mind the specks of blood…Heh heh heh…
- Using Talk option
Now I am at peace.
I will sit here, and watch the world turn. Heh heh…
- Leaving after buying items
Find what you wanted? Hah hah hah hah…
- Leaving without buying anything
Well, as you wish. Heh heh…
- Leaving without exiting menu
Oh, no?
- After pulling lever (while human)
By the very gods…What have you done…
You've really done it…You'll never escape him…
- After pulling lever (while hollow)
1. Hmgh…
I hope you appreciate the ramifications.
Well, no matter. What's done is done.
Besides, I've found myself a new mark…Gah hah hah…
2. I'll spend some time travelling the lands…
Slowly tracking my new mark…
- When attacked (while human)
Please, stop that!
What are you doing?!
You are most intriguing. Heh heh… (aggroed)
Heh heh heh heh heh… (50% HP, no caption)
- When attacked (while hollow)
Yes, I see.
Hmm…
You are most intriguing. Heh heh… (aggroed)
Heh heh heh heh heh… (50% HP, no caption)
- When killing the player
Hmm, ooh…Hah hah hah hah! Not bad at all.
- When killed
Death…aargh…could be worse…
Trivia
- He is the one who invented the Scraps of Life hex.

Hmm... so guys, do you think I should pull back and don't dare?
- Anonymous
does this dude use a special staff or chime or is he just casting this **** barehanded
- Anonymous
This is so devious that killing him doesn't even count as sin. And it counted for petrus.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Jesus christ does this dude become your biggest hater if you free him, he straight-up must've invaded me like 6-8 dang times across the game and refused to give up despite getting his ass trashed every single time he Invaded me, Man's must be my Number 1 hater for sure, followed by Mr./Ms. Forlorn
- Anonymous
Why does he persistently try to invade and murder you as thanks for freeing him? Ungrateful much? Jokes aside, any specific reason why he does this besides him being a lunatic?

You can complete his questline in NG after defeating Throne Watcher & Defender, Nashandra, and Aldia.
Once the credits have (eventually) finished you are taken back to the Majula bonfire still in NG.
Jump off the cliff to kill yourself if you are human, retrieve your souls, go to the mansion in Majula and talk to Cale to get his helm, then go to Aldia's keep and complete the quest (assuming you have Gilligan's Ladder Miniature, The Sunset Staff, and the Aged Feather).
You do not lose any of these items to Navlaan, you just have to show them to him.
- Anonymous
Mindlessly freed him in a run where I was rocking an INT build without realising he was the NPC that gave you Unleash Magic lmao. Oh well, there's always the next NG+
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
If you pulled the lever and he refuses to trade you, you can burn a bonfire ascetic at the bonfire right outside the building when you walked in and he will trade you.
- Anonymous
I was chaotic and released him then killed him immediately after. He didn't even have a chance to fight back.
- Anonymous
Ran into a glitch where Navlaan had his fog gate released and he wasn't there when I first entered Aldia's Keep.

- Anonymous
If you pull the lever you can force quit the game and it will reverse the lever pull (at least it did for me)
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
...maybe I should have dug a little deeper before pulling the lever at the end of a hallway with 9 "Pull back" and "Don't you dare" messages before it...
- Anonymous
His AoE hex is lethal. With Rebel's Greatshield I run out of stamina blocking it and left be with less than 500 hp. The way I ended him in every one of the places he appears is rushing to him as soon as he spawns, having a great hammer to pankake or trow him into the air (like the King's Greatsword), and stunlocking the shush out of him. Do not let him attack, do not heal, just one try if you don't wear +900 dark defense. After all of the trouble there is no reward but the effigies for defeating an invader so... Nope
- Anonymous
Should also note that he doesn't actually take the items he asks you collect. So, for example, you don't lose the feather by completing his quest. And as long as you still have the NG version of the items, you can auto-complete his quest when finding him in NG+.
- Anonymous
he can invade in the queens room if you are coming from the dragonriders bonfire
I came to visit him to buy some stuff from him, when a basilisk I rolled past caught up to me and KILLED him. I was quite upset.
- Anonymous
releasing this mf is probably the worst mistake ever maybe ever.
- Anonymous
literally i just went to him and started buyin while traped on meny a damn basilisk amushed me and killed the npc...
- Anonymous
I talked to him while being hollow and when he gave me the option to answer his question I just went away, resulting closing the dialogue box.
What happen next?
- Anonymous
today I arrived in aldias keep and found the lever before I found him, I didn't have the fextralife open so I just ignored the dozens of messages saying to back off and pulled the lever, When I got close to him he said his lines and then I understood the **** I had done, killed him instantly, lost some items for it but I won't have him bugging me for the rest of the game
- Anonymous
Nobody has any info about him as an invader?
I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure he's super dangerous as an invader. Take this with a grain of salt because it's entirely possible I saw a Navlaan cospayer and not Navlaan himself (I died in one hit and didn't see him until panning the camera around after I was dead).
I remember in one at least one place he hides behind stuff to catch you off guard and then blasts the hell out of you with a top tier spell. If I recall correctly he can one-shot low vigor players with unleash magic + soul spear.
If anyone's got a list of the spells he can cast, or even just his HP that would probably be good info to add.

Sadly, Hollow Skin does not trick him when you are not hollow.

Royal pain in the neck. Thank the sun that I can come back and put an arrow between his eyes. That stops the invasion.

This fxxking game designer always want to make you regret. When I would like to enjoy exploring myself without guide, he said you are fxxker haha. The only relieve for me is. I download your game HAHA.

Is it just me or does Navlaan use the same bare-handed animations when he attacks as in Bloodborne? He doesn't seem to be using a weapon is all, unless he has those invisible rings or something. I know it's more accurate to say the Bloodborne player uses Navlaan's animations with the timeframe and all, but still.

I open this mother*****ing page right after i freed him because there s online class in my phone ***** online classes Now i dont know what to do anymore
- Anonymous
If you free him and get him aggro, he casts hexes such as Scraps of Life, Dark Hail and Affinity with bare hands. He also casts a different homing-fog-hex thing that covers a large area and I couldn't really dodge it, although easy to block. He also casts another hex that resembles Dark Hail balls but they spin around him like Dark Storm. HE'S GOT STYLE! I brought him to Aldia's Keep main hall to hold a final battle before I change to NG++ but he hasn't got much HP, though if the affinity hits you in full, you'll be in trouble.

"- When killed Death…aargh…could be worse…" Ye i agree with the guy. Have you ever heard of the tragedy of Venderick the Wise? I thought not. It's not a story the Emerald Herald would tell you. It's a Dark legend. Venderick was a King of Drangleic, so powerful and so wise he could use blessings to make a crown repel the curse... He had such a knowledge of magic that he could even peer into the essence of a soul. The dark of man is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful... the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, his Queen betrayed him and tried to take the throne of giants for herself.. Ironic, he could save others from the Curse, but not himself.
He isn't only the inventor of the Scraps of Life Hex, the description of the spell implies that he was executed and resurrected.

What happens if I had already killed one of the targets? Like, i kiled felkin before he asked to

I was playing in aldia's keep for the first time, and I freed navlaan unintentionally. Can I do your quest on NG +?
- Anonymous
Eu estava jogando em aldias keep pela primeira vez e liberei o navlaan sem querer , eu posso fazer a Quest com ele no NG+ ?
- Anonymous
Note: I was playing SOtFS where I picked picked up the Sunset Staff, but I cannot recall if the Mimic dropped it or not.
- Anonymous
I released him and killed him but man he puts up a fight if you give him a chance to fight back, he throws some nasty hexes at you, so be ready if you plan on killing him as soon as you release him, I was definitely surprised he went that hard lol
- Anonymous
Probably the most intriguing and amazing characters in the whole souls series, I'm obsessed with him, he knew the truth about the fire keeper - "They say that she is the last Fire Keeper. But they say a lot of things… That she's a gentle shepherd, lighting the way for you cursed fools. Nonsense." He knew she's just like Nashandra...

So, can I just do the individual victims quests for their items and then talk to him, pretending that I killed them? He asked me to kill the ladder maker and bring him the miniature, but I already purchased it and he went ahead to the next target. If I read it right, after lighting enough flames, the cartographer gives me his gear (helmet included, as well as a trophy) ; can I just do that instead?? I already have the Sunset staff and the feather is given to me in the next area.

I think if you kill him right after releasing him he won't invade you
- Anonymous
I have a question , when Navlaan is Behind the Barrier , can he be killed ?
or is he invulnerable behind the barrier ?
- Anonymous
Everyone that *****s this up deserves it for playing a game that requires you to PAY ATTENTION, yet somehow don't pay attention even at this late stage in the game. Jesus

Is there any other way to get the pyro and sorcery? I killed him but I don't remember when or if I was hollow or human... I can pray at his grave and buy things while human though but not the pyro or sorcery. Is starting NG++ the only way? (I had started NG+ a long time ago)
- Anonymous
It's easy to kill Navlaan. While he's preparing a sorcery, recharge some stamina before smacking him. He has no poise.
- Anonymous
Oh great. I pulled the lever without knowing it. Goodbye pyromancy spell and trophy I guess. Any other way to obtain that besides NG+?
- Anonymous
*****... I'm only seeing this page after I pulled that *****ing lever. He also killed me and now I'm basically fully hollowed. GREAT
- Anonymous
I play the sotfs version, I pull the lever in aldia keep and I thought it was just a troll then I get invade without knowing that I had already freed him I doesn't even talk to him once !
- Anonymous
The moment I had freed him I was able to buy from him and I didn't get any of the rewards for the assassination... Any help?
- Anonymous
YOU MUST WARN US and put it at the top of the page and big words with red line ! 1-DONT PULL THE LEVER ! 2-Bonfire Ascetic WONT WORK !
