Agape Ring is a Ring in Dark Souls 2 (DKS2). Players can equip up to 4 Rings, but equipping two of the same item is not possible. Some rings have upgraded versions, having a maximum of +3. Some can only be found in NG+. Rings can be repaired at a blacksmith, but not upgraded. Upgraded versions must be acquired throughout the game from corpses, chests, bosses, etc.
Agape Ring Effects
Durability: 500
Weight:
- 0.2
- Absorbs souls in place of its wearer
Agape Ring Locations
- Purchase from Straid of Olaphis for 5000 souls (only available when Soul Memory is above 30000)
Notes
- From Patch 1.10: "When players equip the new Agape Ring, souls collected from kills during online play will be absorbed by the ring rather than the player. This allows players to control their online matchmaking experience by limiting their total souls collected."
- Currently, ALL souls obtained, online AND offline, including NPC enemies during player vs. environment, are absorbed by the ring.
- You cannot use soul items as consumables while wearing the Agape Ring.
- You also can't sell anything to Gavlan while wearing this thing.
- Cannot be traded

I don't understand what everyone's problem is if u don't want to get invaded play offline...pretty simple

Judging by the comments this ring seems to exist to stop twinkers. But you cant stop twinking like that. I think they shouldve bring level mechanic to all weapons, armor, rings, spells etc. So we wouldnt need soul memory thing nor this ring.

I understand people cope instead accepting that reality is a heavy burden in our tiny little monkey brain, but dont try to tell me that souls memory is a good mechanic, it destroyed coop in this game so hard.

People need to realize one thing: NO ONE IS BELOW THE TOP TIER OF SOUL MEMORY. Everyone's got millions of souls stacked up. So guess what? Ya don't need the ring, welcome to the way this game was supposed to be played; everyone at top sm at whatever level they wanna be at, totally avaliable to invade or duel or CoOp. Dont act like you havent sunk 150hrs in... Stop pretending soul memory breaks the game just because you wanna keep a low meta for a decade old game. Have fun ffs at get in the arena!!

I've used this ring to make "baby helpers", twinks that are sunbros or sentinels. It is so tremendously satisfying to shut down "noobslayer" invading twinks. Like the Dark Souls version of an UNO reverse card.

Last version of Blue Sentinels seems to remove soul memory system and brings back lvl based online. Can someone comfirm plese?

Just imagine some dude use this in forest of giants area and help 500times!!! Just a shower thought names are familiar???

pretty cool of fromsoft to not only add a ring that slaps a bandaid over a bad game design, but ALSO allows people to twink, which was the whole reason the soul memory feature was implemented. ??????

So you are saying me this is actually for noob hunter ring? Thats very annoying I already got gud but what about noobs who just started the game? Please dont do this souls games is not for everyone im aware that but you should also give the new players a chance btw at least they make an update about removing this stupid ring so we all can match with soul level.
- Anonymous
They should've just gotten rid of SM and made matchmaking SL-based again in SOTFS, rather than adding this waste of a ring slot. Twinks are gonna twink either way.
- Anonymous
Apparently this ring also makes you unable t obtain boss souls. I'm panicked when I obtained no boss souls after defeating them.
It sucks, I just don't want the regular souls not the items you should have got
- Anonymous
Trash ring, not gonna waste my slot for a stupid ring like that. Hands down ds2 is the worst in the series...

Imagine wrecking your game's online experience so badly that the only solution is to remove the SOULS from Dark Souls. Should be called the Ring of Shame.
- Anonymous
They could just count how many boss souls you acquired and add that to the matchmaking formula.

what is soul memory FOR! everybody keeps on saying that! my sm is 1732675394

I ****ing love this game but this makes it very annoying to coop and PvP. Why couldn they fix it im SOFTS aaaaa
- Anonymous
i love this game, but soulmemory isnt great for coop at all, wish from would have changed matchmaking to soul level and upgrade rank.
Yeah i know twink ppl suck ind ds3 but id take that rather then having to play without getting souls to be able to coop

Too OP plz nerf. Too much extra damage and resistance for wearin the ultimate fashion ring? Unnaceptable
- Anonymous
why bother with a ring when dev shouldve just create an npc for stagnating soul memory. The ring takes up a slot.

Is it frowned upon to use it to assist lower levels/new players? I've been contemplating grabbing it on a lower soul memory character and running my old mace and alva armor with hiede knight iron mask combo. Even contemplated running it wish the red-eyed ring for people who find themselves needing some assistance.

It's almost like the devs forgot about the high skill cap in the online community, and how sweaty dedicated twinks will always find a work-around

rocking this ring flynns ring rob+2 and a ring depending on what im feeling like on sm 39K and absolutely wrecking fools with unupgraded weapons

for those in 2020 still wondering if dark souls 2 still has the crappy SM system. it does. I still have an sl 25 at 39998 sm with a +10 ultra Greatsword. and I'm still 1-2 hitting scrubs in forest of fallen giants/bastile/wharf. SM still does nothing to stop it. it just stops bad players from being able to do it. which means only somewhat skilled players can do it, which is worse. it also prevents archers or mages from being able to do it without hours of grinding for consumables and arrows every now and then. You'd be surprised at how many brand new players there are still checking in to this game. oh well, more food for my sword x'3

"This allows players to control their online matchmaking experience by limiting their total souls collected". Yeah, and also limiting the items you can buy because there's no *****ing way you can gain souls to spend on items, reinforcing or repairs if you wear the ring, and if you take it off then you raise your Soul Memory and you fixed nothing. Such a bad system, SM should have been an optional feature.
- Anonymous
Also, you don't get the souls that the ring absorbs. Ever. I was wondering if I'd get them when i took the ring off, nope, they're gone.
- Anonymous
imagine creating such a retarded system that you need to implement a item only so players can bypass it truly advanced game design
- Anonymous
It should be mentioned that you also can't sell to Gavlan while wearing this thing.
- Anonymous
Can it be traded? You'd think it would say so. The ring of whispers page has the information.

Because screw passwords with friends... this is Dark Souls, git gud

all these comments that clearly didn't even read the base entry lol jesus people cmon

- Anonymous
Lol its so sad that they added soul memory to prevent people from twinking then they added this ring defeating the purpose of soul memory
- Anonymous
I prefer to use this item for base level runs. I get all the expendable resources + weapon upgrades I will need with the 30k souls, and make it all last as long as possible. it is difficult, but I've beaten this game twice like that.
- Anonymous
lmao they had to add an entire item to try to "fix" their*****ty game HAHAHAHA
- Anonymous
on top of everything else this failure of a game is compared to its others in the series, now you can have an entire character ruined by someone throwing acid at you too many times, on too many occasions. if it happens to you, just hope they don't kill themselves "for you" aswell.
- Anonymous
its always been a shitty mechanic. considering how ppl on any souls game can easily find ways to become op, all this does it prevent you from playing on the same character if you rely on resources like archers and mages, while it wastes a ring slot on all chars. fingers crossed one day a version comes out with it removed. it doesn't stop op melee chars from being made, so why bother? now I've gotta rush to Straid just so I can help people kill the very first 2 bosses on a low lvl char when I feel like it?... jesus.
game was doomed before anyone even played it to find out it was the shittest in the series.
I'm only playing again because of nostalgia, but it's like they don't want you to keep playing. :/

It says the ring was added with sotfs edition, it was in base game DS2 before the first dlc came out. Lol.
- Anonymous
For people coming back from ds3, ds2 online matching is based on soul memory. Every foe you kill, you gain soul memory increased. If a guy keeps playing the game for 300hrs, he/she can never be matched online with another guy for 100hrs. So the ring is a kind of hotfix, it puts stop for obtaining further soul memory. Most PvP players use this ring when they are at Level 150-200 for skill play.

To all the people who go and say they don't know the purpose of the ring right away, take a moment, pause, take a deep breath, and start reading, because everything you would need to know is just 1-2 scrolls up... I know it's crazy...
- Anonymous
This ring is useful when used online for matching with people going up against bosses so can be used to farm sunlight medals and tokens of fidelity
- Anonymous
I think the concept of Soul Memory is kinda dumb, but I never played DS2 so I don't think I can make this my permament opinion. I think the sell price of this think should be equal to the amount of souls it absorbs. This would only make sense in a world where SL determines summoning range, though.
yeah, let's completely disable the entire currency system, because who the hell in the right mind would ever need supplies
- Anonymous
So if this ring absorbs souls for you without changing your soul level, does that mean you can't use these souls as currency / experience?
- Anonymous
By far one of the best rings in the game for advanced player a who wish to beat the game at crazy low soul memory. So worth it if you understand the rings true power.
funny im playing sotfs in ps4 and when i purchase the ring from Straid, it has no name and no description, it only read: NO TEXT....
- Anonymous
Would equiping this ring prevent released souls from activating the golems in the ivory king zone?
- Anonymous
It would be have been an interesting ability for this ring to give the souls back when it breaks
