Forlorn is an enemy in Dark Souls 2.
Forlorn Information
"Born of Aldia's Obsession with the First Sin, the Forlorn lost both their corporeal form and a world to call their own. Now they drift into other worlds, ever in search of a home. But without self, one has neither beginning nor end, and so the Forlorn have only to wander."
Location
- Black Gulch (chance to spawn near the worms. TP: near the first tar pool from the first bonfire)
- Forest of Fallen Giants (chance to spawn in front of the king's door area where the syan knight is. TP:the doorway to the "balcony")
- Huntsman's Copse (guaranteed to spawn when approaching the leftmost side of the map where that butterfly sits on the top of a tree in the Bridge Approach area. NOTE: they are actually tied to the Undead Refuge bonfire, so that's where you should use Bonfire Ascetics if you want to replenish their spawns)
- Harvest Valley (chance to spawn in front of the Covetous Demon's fog gate. TP: entering the upper hallway dotted with poison pots)
- Iron Keep (chance to spawn on the bridge (that gets smashed) to the right as you exit Ironhearth Hall. TP: the doorway to the bridge)
- Dragon Aerie (chance to spawn on the last pillar that connects Dragon Aerie with Dragon Shrine)
- The Lost Bastille (1.chance to spawn on the road that connects McDuff's bonfire and The Tower Apart tower in which Lucatiel resides in. TP:reaching the top of the stairs from McDuff's bonfire /// 2.chance to spawn in the Exile Holding Cells bonfire area near the exit of the prison. TP:reaching the exit, maybe a little further where the first explosive barrel is)
- Shaded Woods (chance to spawn somewhere in the misty forest with the ghosts. TP: passing through the doorway leading into the area from the ruined fork road)
- Drangleic Castle (chance to spawn on the long bridge that leads into Drangleic Castle)
- Aldia's Keep (summoned after you have lit each torch sconce, no invader notification will be shown)
- Frozen Eleum Loyce (Outer Wall Bonfire)
*TP=spawn trigger point
Drops
- Human Effigy

Strategy Tips
- There are two variants of Forlorn that will invade the player. One wields a greatsword while the other posesses a scythe. Both used to be female, according to their character model.
- Like many invading NPCs the Forlorn will make use of evasive maneuvers, such as rolling and backstepping, along with parrying and jumping attacks to bring the player down.
- They can be stunlocked by sorceries, however if the player is unable to stunlock them or misses, there is a high chance the Forlorn will follow up with an attack while the player is vulnerable to deal massive damage.
- They will actively dodge through spells, using melee attacks instead is highly recommended.
- They seemingly rotate through strategies, one of which being in guard mode for a set amount of time. In guard mode they circle around you while holding their weapon up. Use this opportunity to perform a guard break on them and deal massive amounts of damage by using the counter attack animation. They will never attack while guarding during this time, so you don't have to worry about a surprise attack. When they move towards you with their guard up, they are NOT in guard mode so pay attention.

Notes
- While attempting to force a spawn, it's recommended to add and select your Homeward Bone, Aged Feather or Darksign on your belt, since they become unavailable for use during an invasion. As soon as an invasion is not triggered you should use any of those items and repeat.
- If you choose Darksign, consider using the Agape Ring with it to protect your soul memory.
- Each randomly spawned and defeated Forlorn unlocks a piece of their armor for purchase at Straid of Olaphis. You cannot unlock their weapons before unlocking their armor first. You must defeat a scythe variant Forlorn after defeating 4 chance spawned forlorns in order to unlock the Scythe of the Forlorn. Same goes for the greatsword. The unlock progression carries over to NG+.
Scythe Variant
HP | Weak | Resists | Respawns? | |
---|---|---|---|---|
NG: ? NG+: ? NG+7: ? |
?? | ?? | No |
Location
- Undead Crypt (chance to spawn in the hallway blocked by the two undead wielding giant shields. TP: the room where you fight Lici-cough Nameless Usurper.)
- Shrine of Amana (chance to spawn on the ridge accessed through a wooden door inside the Tower of Prayer. TP: the end of the ridge where the chest and basilisk is)
- Shulva, Sanctum City (chance to spawn at the lower end of the stairs that lead down to the bridge that Sinh airstrikes upon first approach. TP: the beginning/top of the stairs or the middle)
Move Set
- Among the Forlorn's many moves, two of them have the potential to go pass your shield and do some damage. An overhead attack and the back sweep both can bypass the player's shield's defenses to inflict some damage

Yeah I didn’t know this was actually in the game. I thought it was just another invader. Then again it didn’t act like one…
- Anonymous
The Greatsword variant is quite easy but the scythe one is pure stunlock and roll catch cancer, wish YOU could use the scythe just as fast and smooth as him/her.
- Anonymous
Black knife assassins from Elden Ring were Numen who originated outside the lands between. I wonder where...

Being invaded by this NPC really spices things up. I swear he chooses to show up more often when you're being chased by a horde of rabid enemies (although considering the excessive nature of this game, I must say that's a frequent thing to happen).

This is what the Japanese translation of the Forlorn item descriptions:
"Touring the World of the Immortals
Armor of the Lost
As bastards of original sin
Losing their bodies and their world
They seek refuge in other worlds
But a relationship without self
There is no beginning and no end
So they keep going round and round"
Notice nothing about Aldia is mentioned.

The Scythe-wielding Forlorn spawned for me around the Outer Wall Bonfire In Eleum Loyce

The infinite I-frame rolls and the fact they can seemingly instantly cancel out of a stagger or an attack to roll away never fails to piss me off as an Ultra Greatsword user, doubly so when it's the scythe-wielding Forlorn with their extremely fast and damaging attacks that can easily stunlock you.

He also spawned when I went to the first bonfire in Crown of the Old Iron King DLC

This guy is so annoying. He's not hard he just takes forever to kill
- Anonymous
WHY THE FFCK THİS GUY RESPAWNS? JUST WHY ? WHY ? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
- Anonymous
There are actually 2 spawn locations for forlorn in Iron keep, the one missing seems to be right when you enter the Furnace Room. I know this because I had the Forlorn spawn at both locations in Iron Keep
- Anonymous
The wiki doesn’t mention that he has a chance to spawn in Brightstone Cove near the Lower Brightstone Cove Bonfire. Another NPC has a chance to spawn there duel wielding repeating crossbows. I’m trying to force the forlorn to spawn so I decided to get the details of the forlorn spawning in this area, but the wiki doesn’t mention Forlorn spawning in this area.

mfw i parry a Forlorn and deal 10% of their health with a riposte
- Anonymous
Do you guys want me to take a good picture of Forlon so you can use it instead of whatever the fuk is that picture? xD
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
>tfw you get them with a 500 dmg heavy hit but it's only 5% of their healthbar
- Anonymous
I hate these bastards so much. Always finds the time that is most inconvenient to invade
- Anonymous
i just want the armor.. he just invaded me once, trying to get him in all spots mentioned by this wiki and people commending but nope :<

Anyone else run into “witchoftheforlorn”? Not a person that invaded me but im very much convinced it’s an npc. Found in the fork bonfire shaded woods area in the misty woods area. Runs around with the sword and scythe, evil red eye effect.
- Anonymous
Whoever says they don't respawn is lying. I've killed 6 over the time I've been farming Ironhearth, 2 in one Ascetic cycle
- Anonymous
Have had the Forlorn invade me in Earth Peak Central Bonfire, up the stairs, then up the ladder.
- Anonymous
How many times must you humiliate this joke before he gets lost or commits sepukku out of shame?
- Anonymous
Invades basically any time I have more than 100K souls on me.
- Anonymous
I was also invaded by Forlorn at Lost Bastille while climbing the ladder out of the area where the Pursuer is encountered, in the courtyard with the dogs near McDuff
- Anonymous
Basically the stalker type enemies from Resident Evil but they’re annoying.
- Anonymous
page doesnt mention the scythe forlorn invasion near the front of the Dragon Sanctum entrance in the Sunken City

Sword Forlorn also spawns in the sasdy area without the quicksand on the way to Dukes Dear Freja from the Chapel Threshold bonfire (SotFS)

Forlorn is like the annoying neighbor who cannot take a hint and keeps showing up at your place uninvited.

The embodiment of
"HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO TEACH YOU THIS LESSON OLD MAN?"

So, apparently all variations of Forlorn are women (and headless, like Vengarl). There's a Zullie the Witch video that removes the armor and it apparently has a female character model.

His tracking is broken dude turns 90 degrees midair while doing a jumping attack.
- Anonymous
I thought he was a real player for so long...
Coz he kept on invading me seemingly at random, just like a real player...
And I kept on not drinking estus to be honourable and stuff...
God damn it

bruh just got invaded as a mage (50 int currently) and all my spells did less than 100 dmg, feels bad man

On of many reasons why Daek Souls 2 SotfS is the weakest in the series

This Guy is pure evil. Not because he's hard but I was trying to force a spawn because I only needed the Sword from him to get the entire gear. I got him to invaded me at the gate that leads to the Giant Lord memory. I defeated him and rested at the bonfire only for my Game to have an error that crashed it. This Guy has the nerve to force an error in my PS4. I still got the Sword tho but this was just such a funny occurrence.
- Anonymous
Been warping around for hours trying various spawn points, to no avail. I just need the chest piece. Ugh.

This guy is complete bull****. I swear he cancelled a backstab animation TWICE while it was in the middle, by rolling. I have never seen any other phantom do that. Only simple pummeling appears to work reliably.
During my playthrough, I was invaded by Forlorn in every possible location they spawn. Scythe Forlorn in Eleum is the only one I ever died to -- SO much health and the attack tracking on the scythe is insanely accurate! Woof.
If get invaded and the Forlorn has the sword and I suicide/get killed and get invaded again in the same location.
Could the Forlorn have the scythe? or the equipment is picked only once and not for each invasion
If it can change:
Can the Forlorn that spawn with a 100% chance do that? (I have tried that and or I am unlucky or is impossible (i try like 20 times))
If it can not change:
What about burning ascetic?
Is there a location that has a 100% of Sythe that count for Straid?
Do I have to kill an X amount of Forlorn so they can spawn with Sythe?
I just want to buy Scythe of the Forlorn

The fact that they're female in the game data is definitely non-canon. They are essentially meant to be a possessed suit of armor and have no gender. That means they should default to 'he'
- Anonymous
Fun fact both the sword and scythe wielding variants are female!!

I actually kinda like this guy. Sure he has a ton of stamina and poise, but i think he still plays by the rules. He doesn't roll-cancel out of attacks like some phantoms do.
- Anonymous
In SotFS for xb1 I got invaded by one in Drangliec Castle, in the second room. Just before the little room with the ladder that goes down toward the bonfire. Just sayin'...
- Anonymous
For some reason, I can't get the Scythe ones to invade at all. I've been to all their locations, and nothing. Is their spwn rate lower than the Greatsword ones?
- Anonymous
for some reason this douche keeps invading me almost at any location everytime when i equip black knight ultra greatsword
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I like hunting these things and killing them for sport, also the armor is a nice bonus
- Anonymous
Scholar of the First Sin edition, on Xbox - the Harvest Valley invasion of the Forlorn *did not* happen before the Covetous Demon's fog gate, but outside of the second bonfire (the bonfire after the gate that can only be opened via the lever above it).
- Anonymous
This ****ing douche is pure cancer, greatsword stun locking and super poise on every one of his attacks. I ****ing hate this **** scholar put in. Pure garbage.
- Anonymous
Just got invaded by Forlorn in Bastille while I was hollowed? (thought you only got invaded even by npc's when you're human?)
- Anonymous
Got invaded by scythe wielding forlorn at undead crypt on my way to fight vendrick. Annoying but bodied him with my dark infused sacred chime hammer! xD
If you plan to farm him with Bonfire Ascetics in Huntsman's Copse, be sure to used them at the Undead Refuge bonfire — that's the one his spawn tied to, despite the fact that he invades in the Bridge Approach area.
- Anonymous
No doubt the most annoying enemy in ds2 (for me) tired of their bullxxxx and i guess we should expect something like this in elden ring
- Anonymous
Does anyone know if the area boss needs to be alive for forlorn to spawn?
Lol this dude has such a hard-on for you in the game. It’s actually kinda comedic how much he invades you throughout the game, every time i see him i say to myself “This guy again??” Haha.
- Anonymous
They also have what is potentially the highest poison resistance in the game... 3 consecutive Toxic Mist casts with them inside the mist for its duration and they still won't be poisoned. Kind of insane, considering they're supposed to simulate invaders and there is no way any character could ever have that kind of poison resistance.
- Anonymous
Was invaded by him at Chapel threshold while trying to get white hollow mage mask. Invaded when I was by the antlion hole thing.
- Anonymous
of course the one time I want his armor is the run he decides to never invade me

Was invaded by a scythe variant forlorn in dragon's sanctum, just at the entrance doorway to the lair of the imperfect area. (As you exit the building and walk onto shallow water) Came to check the wiki for spawn info since it was the first time he actually managed to kill me and that particular area doesnt seem to be documented here.
Just beat him down with my bone fist in Dragon Shrine (he spawned on the walkway leading to the pagoda). Killed him twice in Dragon Aerie.
- Anonymous
He was my first invasion in DS2. Thought he was real person and tried to wave and not healing (honor and ****). Roll attacked me to death...
- Anonymous
I swear to God he can invade while fighting a boss but he don't want to do it
- Anonymous
This ******* somehow managed to SOFTBAN ME using his evil NPC magic
- Anonymous
Another missed location: room with cursed armor in Shulva. Another bonylus with ghosts. Also, first time they cut me down. When I returned to finish off the armors he spawned again, second time in a row, but I got killed. And then I returned again - and he spawned third tine in a row. I killed him and the knights. That was super intense.
If there’s any NPC invader who invades me the most, it’s definitely Forlorn
- Anonymous

I was going through iron keep when this b*st*rd invaded me. cheesed him with dragonrider twinblade+2
- Anonymous
I was doing farming runs and this guy invaded me in the poison mask room in Drangleic Castle, might wanna add that one
- Anonymous
Dude confused me because the last time I played DS2, he didn't exist and playing SOTFS for the first time, I was offline when this dude showed up at Lost Bastille when I was farming easy souls and I thought I'd gotten online somehow.
- Anonymous
Honestly this is complet bull*****He kept rolling through all my spells AND melee attacks. How much stamina does he have ?
- Anonymous
I feel like he's introduced to us as like, a rival. constantly showing up when you least expect it to test your strength. honestly, he should be called the Pursuer. It would make more sense, he chases us way more than the Pursuer does!
- Anonymous
Invaded me just now in Dragon Aerie on the path between the first and second sleeping dragon. Honestly kind of sick of him. Sure, easy souls and an effigy, but how many times do I have to teach you this lesson, old man?
- Anonymous
Got invaded by Forlorn right before Pursuer's bossfight room after I defeated the giant lord and was on my way to collect Benhart's gear
- Anonymous
Im at Aldia's Keep first (Foregarden) bonfire. Im playing with Delicate String on and the door at the Keep entrance becomes fogged for a moment. I only get message: "Dark Spirit Forlorn has returned home". Haven't been able to see the guy. Is this a bugged invasion location?
- Anonymous
Gotta love when he Invades in Iron Keep only to fall down the hole a Turtle Knight left in the bridge.
- Anonymous
One of many reasons why DS2 kinda sucks. (still better than DS1 though)
page update requested: a scythe-wielding Forlorn sometimes spawns when walking into the room with two Leydia Witches and 5 Hollows in the Undead Crypt, in Scholar of the First Sin, after the two Syan Soldiers, the torch-wielding hollow, and the Imperious Knight, past the first bonfire
